Originality consists of returning to the origin, understanding the wisdom of a being who created architectural spaces from lived experiences, from admiration for every corner of nature, from the mysteries of his spiritual world, and always with an infinite curiosity for the environment, science, and philosophy.

We propose you to follow the Gaudí Path with your curiosity attuned to find this Origin: observe your steps in life, discover the laws and cries of nature that lead you to creativity, experience everything around you, learning its behavior, admire the geometric forms of nature and the spaces we inhabit in the world. It is necessary to be quiet in order to delve into spirituality and express it by giving meaning to the new manifestations, actions, and creations that may arise.

We are two artists, Simone Eva Neihard and Pilar Aldana-Méndez, who share our voices to celebrate the world of the architect Antoni Gaudí in 2026 and commemorate the centenary of his death.

We made our journey to Riudoms, the birthplace of the Master Antoni Gaudí. Along this path, deeply connected to nature, through our creative and spiritual world, we found in Gaudí's works and projects a powerful source of study and inspiration.

Pilar Aldana-Méndez  has dedicated special attention to the spaces and the presence of light in the Sagrada Familia temple, conducting extensive photographic research over the last eight years to create the visual poems entitled "The Temple of Light," which bring together images of the temple and nature.

Pilar Aldana-Méndez created nine sculptures in solid glass for the Sacristy Tower of the Sagrada Familia, a project that led her to study Gaudí's work in depth, especially in the way the architect intentionally applies geometry to capture the vibration of light in spaces, and how he imbues forms with a spiritual meaning.

The sculptures presented by Pilar Aldana-Méndez are made of stone, glass, and clay. They are works created from her understanding of the practice of art: Technique - Spirit - Thought, where the rigor of geometry, the passion for light, empty spaces, and lived experience give shape to ideas.

The exhibition at the Gaudí family home includes a selection of photographs of the Temple of Light project, as well as details of the project carried out for the Sacristy Tower, and a group of sculptures that have a strong connection to Gaudí's thinking.

At the Roman Villa of La Mola, you will find the granite sculptures that Pilar Aldana-Méndez is contributing as her main tribute for the centenary of Gaudí. These works have a very special history, with a close relationship to the Temple of the Sagrada Familia.

Simone Eva Neidhard has intensively studied the plans, drawings, and writings of Antoni Gaudí, but above all, his buildings and models. She reflects on and artistically interprets these references, especially the plaster models from the Sagrada Familia archive and the preliminary studies for the nave's columns.

These observations are reduced pictorially to a few basic organic forms and design principles, which she places in dialogue with the flora of Gaudí's birthplace, Riudoms. For these plant studies, Eva uses pigments from plants that may have inspired the architect, and, in keeping with the sustainability practices already embraced by Gaudí, she uses only natural materials.

In her sculptures, Simone Eva Neidhard playfully explores Gaudí's unique formal language. Her aim is not so much to imitate as to conduct an intuitive investigation of his rich formal vocabulary. Themes such as the interrelation of fragments and unity, or materiality and space, are playfully contrasted. Using materials such as bronze, glass, and ceramics, she deliberately draws inspiration from the materials Gaudí employed.

With Homage I – III, Simone Eva Neidhard creates spatial installations that pay tribute to various artistic and human aspects of the master's work. The artist presents her paintings, sculptures, and installations in the Chapel of the Virgin Mary and the Antoni Gaudí Library.

LIGHT LIVES IN THE SPACE IN ETERNAL VIBRATION

The astonishing light that filters through
the temple's stained-glass windows
fills the space with a vibrant color
magnifying the presence of the architectural elements,
giving them new life at every moment of the day
and a special vibration in every season.

PERFECT GEOMETRY TO RECEIVE THE LIGHT

When Geometry is brought into a spiritual realm,
its harmonic, rhythmic, and structural richness
is magnified and has the power to transform an entire space
into something sublime, unique, and mysterious.

Gaudí imbued ruled surfaces with spiritual significance
and repeated them to magnify this presence.

He gave the hyperbolic paraboloid
the meaning of the Holy Trinity,
light entering through the spaces
to reunite the Father with the Son.

Gaudí designed a space ideal for capturing the vibration of light
through the perfection of forms;
he was the creator of

PROJECT

GLASS IS LIGHT

GLASS SCULPTURES FOR THE
SACRISTY TOWER
BASILICA SAGRADA FAMILIA
2014 - 2016

  The design and creation of
 solid glass sculptures,
commissioned by the architects of the Sagrada Familia,
marked a significant moment in my journey as a sculptor.

"To transmit natural light to the interior
of the Sacristy Tower of Sagrada Familia"

The commission was a great challenge that led me to dedicate my knowledge, experience, and soul to creating

the Glass Dices for the Sacristy Tower.

A project I carried out with full professional awareness
and complete attention to the conditions established by the architects.

LIVING THE SCULPTURE

TECNIC . SPIRIT . THOUGHT

Cultivating thought, creating with the spirit,
and thoroughly understanding the craft
are the foundations that have guided the
artistic work of the sculptor Pilar Aldana-Méndez

DREAM AND REALITY, A PATH TOWARD THE ORIGIN

In the autumn of Pilar's artistic creation, one can recognize
the guiding threads that inhabit her works, such as:

the significance of Space and Time,
the rigor of Geometry and the passion for Materials,
the admiration of Nature and the strength of the Spirit.

The presence of these nuances in the thought
of Master Antoni Gaudí,
encouraged the sculptor to dedicate time and life
to the profound study of the great architect's creations.

Pilar presents at the Gaudí Family's ancestral home (Casa Pairal)
a selection of sculptures in marble, glass, and ceramic
to celebrate the life and work of the great architect.

GRANITE SCULPTURES
PILAR ALDANA-MÉNDEZ

Pilar Aldana-Méndez's sculptural work is represented
by large-format sculptures placed in natural
settings across a wide range of locations worldwide.

Works in granite, marble, wood, iron, and glass, created for specific sites,
using local materials and diverse techniques,
ranging from direct hand carving to the use of sophisticated tools.

Pilar lived for 20 years near Granits Barbany

-the company that produced much of the stone carving for
the architectural elements of the Sagrada Familia-
a fact that brought her into contact with new technologies
and allowed her to closely examine
the architectural elements of the Temple.

The sculptures created from granite cylinders originated

from a project to give new life to a surplus material.
These “cylindrical remnants” come from the core extracted
from each section of the Sagrada Familia columns.

Pilar created 10 sculptures from these granite cylinders,
which were carved with robotic diamond wire
and finished with hand carving and polishing.

The Seeds are works that seek to
preserve the power that comes from the original stone
and manifest the strength that a new life gives them.

 LIGHT COLOR ARCHITECTURE
SPECIAL TALK INSIDE
SAGRADA FAMILIA TEMPLE

Conversation with Pilar Aldana-Méndez

                                      Photo Pilar Aldana-Méndez - Winter Solstice 2018

A special look at the Temple of the Holy Family

We will talk about the architectural details of the temple that impact and excite the visitor
thanks to the impeccable treatment of light, color and geometry,

It includes the symbolic and technical analysis of the stained glass windows,
the study of Gaudi's geometry, the history of the construction,
appreciation of the presence of light and color taking special photos, ...

We will see the sculptures in solid glass that I created for the Sacristy Tower,
special work that requires experience in the treatment of light

The content of the conversation is large; I adapt the talk to the interests of the visitors. The duration is 1.30 hours. After our conversation I suggest to visit the Museum, watch the video with the architectural evolution, return to the interior of the temple to appreciate the changes of light and color, observe architectural details of the facades and tour the temple at a greater distance to appreciate it as a whole, see the towers under construction and take a clear idea of how the temple will look once it is finished.

THE SPECIAL RESEARCH

The Sagrada Familia Temple is a great treasure of cultural heritage of humanity. Its value is due to the condensation of more than one century of research, experience, thoughts and actions initiated by the brilliant architect Antoni Gaudi and followed by the coherent group of architects, industrials, craftsmen and artists who have worked and who still continue to build the temple.

Gaudi established his research laboratory at the Colonia Guell and later in the workshop at the temple, leaving clear ideas for its construction widely shaped in models, drawings and writings. Actually, the working team follows the concepts from the master Gaudi, making them real through new generation technical procedures developed to continue this complex construction. The Sagrada Familia is currently the largest living architecture laboratory in the world.

I started my research for light and color with the study of the presence of glass as a key element to create the warm atmosphere and generate the symbolic effects predicted by Gaudi. The study includes the stained glass windows on the geometrical walls, the lanterns suspended in the ceiling, the sculptures in glass and the Venetian glass mosaics of the pinnacles of the towers. It was important to continue with the study of the different stones and the great variety of materials involved in the construction. To study the concepts of rule geometry used by Gaudi to create the architectural patterns that will flood the interior of the temple with light, to understand his research about color by Tricomy and to know his experiments to measure the vibration of colors. To know the special study of the structure of nature that Gaudi applied in the architectural solutions of the temple to create a unique space. With all these elements, the master was able to raise the symbolic content to create a magnificent temple for all cultures.

All this leads me to look for “Who was Gaudi” who posed a challenge to humanity, the challenge to build this temple of light. I had research into the history of his life and his identity as an architect of the modernism. It’s still a challenge for me to keep learning about the master of proportions, the visionary Gaudi who believes in the development of technology, the young and curious Gaudi who receives the commission of the Sagrada Familia Temple and the mature, obsessive and precise Gaudi who projects the amazing interior of the temple during the last years of his life.

Thanks to the experience in the treatment of light in my sculptural work, I made nine sculptures in solid glass for the top of the Sacristy Tower for the Sagrada Familia Temple, a very special commission from the architects. The project took place between 2014 and 2016. I present at the conference the evolution of the project with the realization in Czech Republic and details of the installation.

The realization of the glass sculptures for the temple opened the doors to the research that nourishes this talk, the conference and the project to produce a special film.  The research has allowed me to discover amazing details with conversations with architects, interviews with artists as Joan Vila-Grau, creator of the stained glass windows of the temple, visits to the industrials, artists and craftsmen, studies at the Gaudi Research Institute, special readings, and very important, the large photographic registration of the presence of light inside the temple that fills the space with different touches of color all year around. This way I continue to shape the script of the film, the conference and the conversations in the temple, with a clear knowledge of Gaudi’s work.
